2013 › MECA › BFA (Visual Arts) A site specific installation that explores space, light and sound - It gives substance and physical form to light itself, creating a perplexing, engrossing experience.
L1 is designed to displace light and colour through the repetition of a projection-mapped animation. This animation forms a physical embodiment of the cube itself, allowing the vision and audio to amalgamate as one transcendental presence. Light, the absorption and emission of light and how it interacts in an environment is a constant thread that flows through our work. The severe contrast that transpires between a dark space and projected light allows a physical object to adapt a presence beyond palpable belief. We rely on the viewers assumptions and memory of light and space to raise questions of reality. This piece gives the viewer time to enjoy not-knowing and to privilege questions above answers. By puzzling the senses and setting up the viewer to be consumed in the physical trickery of the installation, the artwork adapts a new aesthetic. This aesthetic celebrates the pleasure of trying to understand those things just outside the grasp of somatic intelligence or preconceived truths. L1.
