Presence of Absence explores and uncovers the value of historic cemeteries to a modern society.

Presence of Absence is a linear park that follows the path of Langsville Creek through Toowong Cemetery. The aim of the project is to explore through a series of spatial experiences, the absence of a memorial for those laid to rest within the project site. The project uncovers their presence and the hidden beauty and story of the site by acknowledging the multiple layers of information that exist on the site, mostly below the ground plane.

The design increases the methods of interaction within the site in a sensitive manner that responds to the symbolic nature of the entire site, while exposing pockets of interest in more detail through specific design elements.
